Fall, please hurry up.

Fall 2014

So Saturday was a great day for us Texans, we finally got a sneak preview of fall. I high of 68 was so relaxing and joyful. I absolutely love the fall and I am so excited for cuddles and pumpkin spice lattes.

The transition from summer to fall can be tricky though. Do I wear a sweater? Or is it okay to still wear a sundress? Well, my friends, now is the time to experiment with BOTH.

An over-sized sweater is always a go-to item for me. They’re so comfortable yet look so chic. I was lucky and found this one at a thrift store, I’ve had it for years and it is still my favorite! Since it wasn’t super cold, I decided to throw on some distressed shorts. The combination of the sweater and the shorts kept me exactly as warm as I needed to be. Ankle boots are my favorite thing ever oh my goodness. I can’t get enough. They go with literally EVERYTHING ladies, I promise they’re a good investment. I put them on to dress up my outfit a bit and they kept my toes nice and cozy. To finish it all, I layered some gold necklaces and that was it!

This awkward in-between weather is actually the best. It gives you the chance to mix things up and create some unique outfits!

On a side-note: I’m loving the middle part right now, what do you think? It’s nice to change things up a bit. Although, I do feel like Jesus! LOL

Black and White

Fall 2014

After a long weekend, I was not ready to go back to school today. But since I was forced to, I decided to dress up a little to make me feel better about being locked up for 8 hours.

Today I went for a basic, black and white outfit. I put on my favorite jeans from American Eagle and a new button-up blouse with a pretty plaid print from Forever 21. To dress it up some more I put on some chunky earrings, and cool d’orsay flats from Nine West.

For hair and makeup, I did a big teased up bun for extra drama and simple eye shadow with winged eyeliner. And of course I had to have a pop of color, so I swiped on some hot pink lipstick (Revlon ColorStay in Muse)!

So in love with this look and how bright my lips look against my simple outfit. Whenever you run out of ideas for clothes, try something new with your makeup!

Summer School

Fall 2014

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean that you have to put away all of your cute summer clothes! As fall is coming around the corner, I am squeezing in my last opportunities to wear my favorite summer pieces.

I absolutely love this maxi dress (Marshall’s, $20). It is so beautiful and delicate and it definitely makes a statement. Even though I had to cover up the back of my dress, the front is still just as stunning. The loose cardigan doesn’t overwhelm the dress, and the slouchy shape keeps it relaxed and bohemian. I really wanted the detailing on the dress to pop, so I opted for simple shoes and accessories.

Transitioning clothes into different seasons is simple, don’t be afraid to overstep fashion boundaries.

Bohemian Edge

Fall 2014

Wednesday’s are always the hardest day of the week, so I wanted to relax and wear something a bit more comfortable. I went for a bohemian vibe today.. with a little bit of an edge.

I put on my favorite skinnies and a black chiffon tank. Starting out with simple pieces is like starting off with a blank canvas, you can really do anything. Because of my school’s strict dress code, I had to wear a cardigan over my tank, which is no big deal because this flowy, lightweight cardigan I found at H&M is perfect. I actually wore this cardigan A LOT over the summer, and I love how versatile it is. To add an unexpected twist, I put on these gorgeous heeled gladiator sandals. I’m obsessed with the punk rock detailing, and they are actually extremely comfotable. I was so lucky to have found these $130 sandals at Urban Outfitters for only $29! They make every outfit look so much cooler.

Mixing styles is one of my favorite things to do, and it is so easy with the right pieces. Don’t be afraid to experiment with clothing and pair things together that you normally wouldn’t.

The Dream of the 90’s is Alive

Fall 2014

Yes, it is true. The dream of the 90’s is alive, my friends.

Well maybe that isn’t true.. but for me it totally is.

Yesterday was my first day of my Senior year of high school and I decided to come back with a bang. Recently, I have been OBSESSED with the 90’s. High waisted jeans, flannels tied around the waist, dark nails, messy hair, and of course The White Stripes. So because of this, everything I have purchased for back to school has been 90’s inspired. If I can’t grow up in the 90’s I can at least pretend that I am.

I found this super cute, high neck dress at Forever 21 and I am in love with it. To show off the neckline, I wore my (newly dyed, omg so punk rock) hair in a messy pony and added some over-sized stud earring for drama. A pair of funky black flats and cool stackable rings completed this simple yet totally cool outfit.

I am SO excited about this school year and my new, edgy look.

On another note, yes I know I have not posted in over 2 weeks (gasp!) but, I will now be back to posting on an everyday basis.

What are your fashion inspirations?? Follow me on Pinterest to see what I’m loving at the moment.

Cool girl in school

Summer 2014

School is unfortunately starting soon and I am currently seeking out some new pieces to add to my collection. Dresses are my favorite thing to wear because they are super cute and easy to throw on.  Recently I popped into Target to buy a new phone charger, and of course I ended up buying this adorable dress. This one is perfect because of its versatility, and the busy print doesn’t call for a lot of accessories. Because it is still 90 degrees outside, I kept it cool and casual with a pair of cutout oxford flats (also purchased at Target for a steal of $8). But, when it gets a little colder out, tights and ankle boots will make it even cuter for the fall.

When shopping, I look for pieces that I can wear in different ways, and even in different seasons. That way, I can get creative and it feels like I’m wearing something new every time.

BTW- Why is my pug a better model than I am?!

Dyeing my Hair Pink?!

Summer 2014

I am the kind of girl who is constantly changing her hair. I am always browsing through Pinterest, contemplating on whether I should have my hair long or short, light or dark, layered or one-length. It seems as if I am never able to make up my mind.

Because of my bad hair experiences of the past, I am very hesitant to try new things. I always hold myself back because it has always ended in disaster.

Well, if you follow me on Pinterest, you will see that I have been obsessing over exotic hair color. Pink, lavender, turquoise, everything. I have always wanted to do something fun and cool, but I have always been so nervous that I couldn’t pull it off.

So last Thursday, I woke up and decided that I want pink hair. I mean, why not?

I headed to Ulta looking for the perfect dye. I did NOT want to bleach my hair (so scary) and I needed something temporary (my school discourages self expression). So after seeking out my many options, I decided to try this amazing product, and I am SO glad I did.

10601039_781251071898094_780011010_n

This was exactly the kind of dye I was looking for. It came in this convenient jar and didn’t require any mixing or bleaching. Even better, it smells AMAZING and left my hair feeling so soft with no visible split ends.

To dye it, I put on some gloves and followed this tutorial, mixing conditioner in with the dye but also using the dye by itself to give my hair more dimension. This is how it turned out and I couldn’t be happier:

10592214_781250718564796_142143085_n

10551817_781250721898129_383395917_nIt is EXACTLY how I imagined it to be.

I am still completely in love with it, and I have no regrets about dying my hair. It has been a week since I dyed it and I actually like it even more now since the pink has faded a bit. The dye washes out very easily, so I have no doubt that it will be back to normal by the time school starts.

I have been pushing myself to try new things and be a little edgier, even if it’s not forever. Fashion is about taking risks and being yourself, no matter how crazy it is. Be bold!

Minimalism

Summer 2014

Well my friends, it seems that my journey with minimalism has ended. I went a full month only wearing these clothes and it has been a difficult yet refreshing experience. I learned to be creative with my clothing and that I can live with only a few pieces and still be chic and stylish. Before, I would stare into my closet full of clothing and walk out thinking I have nothing to wear. But now I feel like I have a completely different closet with so many options.

I hope that you all have learned some things as well, and I hope I have inspired you to challenge yourself with your clothing.

On the other hand, I am very excited to go into the next chapter of my blog. I will not be doing another minimalist challenge any time soon, although I do plan to do another one in the future. I have some very exciting things in store, so be prepared to see my blog go to another level!

Opposites Attract

Summer 2014

Shorts and a tank top are a classic summer staple. It’s hot so it only makes sense to wear clothing that will keep you cool. I like to take a spin on the tank and shorts uniform and make it a little more fun. High waisted shorts are my favorite. They are flattering and comfortable and I like the retro vibe. I got a pair in a bright color to stand out. Anything snake print is always super cool, so I was instantly drawn to this tank. Pairing these two fun pieces together makes a fun, unexpected summer outfit. I threw on my espadrilles and put my hair in a bun and that was all!

I would wear this on days spent outside, to a theme park, or when I’m pretending to ride a bike. It will keep you cool from the heat and you’ll still look super cute! Sometimes things you wouldn’t normally pair together actually make a great duo, you just have to try it out.

Effortless

Summer 2014

By now, you all have probably noticed how much I LOVE layering. A simple maxi dress is the perfect foundation to add to. I have already done some layering looks with this here, here, and here. It is so easy and every outfit looks completely different. Today I decided to layer with my favorite striped tee. I knotted it on the side and put on some strappy white sandals and that was it! This casual, laid back outfit is perfect for those effortless summer days!

A Little Glam

Summer 2014

The days that I want to dress down, I also want to dress up. I still want to look put together and pretty even if I want to be casual and comfortable. The easiest way to do this is to substitute a boring piece for something a bit more glamorous. This outfit could have been a simple, white t-shirt and jeans with a pair of flip flops. But, instead, I wore a lace top and ankle strap sandals. I look casual, but still super chic.

Changing a simple piece into something with a little more detail can make you instantly glamorous. It’s the small things that can completely transform what you look like.

p.s. Sorry for the lack of posting, I was having difficulties with my computer. All fixed now!

Fall for Summer

Summer 2014

When I put together this outfit, I was thinking about fall. I’m in love with the warm colors and dark tones that are usually associated with that season. So why only wear them in November? Well, I broke the rules and made fall colors appropriate for summer.

Olive is one of my favorite colors to wear because it looks good with my skin tone, so these olive pants are a great staple in my wardrobe. A black tube top keeps it cool for summer and is super simple. I really like the way gold looks with the pants, so I added a gold belt and gold drop earrings. Whenever I wear my hair up, I like to wear more dramatic jewelry, but also more dramatic makeup. I did a wing eyeliner and swiped on an auburn lipstick. I love the way this outfit turned out, you can totally be inspired by different seasons. I’m so ready for fall!

By the way– I’m so tired of wearing the same clothes. How ready are you to see me in something different?? A few more days left and I will be done with my minimalist challenge!

So Pretty

Summer 2014

The combination of lace and a pretty skirt makes me feel so fancy and girly. Lace is a classic piece and it goes with pretty much anything. I love the blue skirt with this because it is so bright and fun for summer and really adds some extra flavor to the piece. I added ankle strap sandals for a retro feel and that’s all that was needed to complete the look. Not much needs to go into an outfit to make it look classy and chic.

Small Changes

Summer 2014

I am in love with this outfit. Mostly because of the strap detailing on the back of this tank. But also the wonderful, summery print of these shorts. Yes, I have done a very similar outfit so far but I am liking this one a bit more. Changing a simple thing, such as adding a fun tank, can make all the difference on how an outfit looks. It wasn’t a huge change, I kept basically the same pieces, but you can see all of the difference in the way I look. It is a lot more flattering, and I instantly look dressed up. The eye is drawn to the print of my shorts in the front, but also to the straps in the back, making my outfit so much more interesting.

Sometimes a small detail in a piece of clothing can make a huge difference in how you look. I’m not saying that I don’t like the other outfit I styled with these shorts, but this is a bit more appealing and more ideal for when I want to be a little more dressed up.

Details are everything.

One Piece, Four Outfits

Summer 2014

The minimalist challenge I have decided to take has gone surprisingly well. So far, I have learned to be creative with the things that I wear, and I have had a lot of fun doing so. Today I decided to collage together four of the outfits I put together using the same top so you can all see how you too can put together multiple outfits using the same piece. Whether it’s dressy or casual, a simple piece can go a long way.

I have many more outfits to go and I hope you all keep reading my blog and continue to be inspired by the clothes I style.

Vintage Twist

Summer 2014

One of my favorite things to do with styling is to add a vintage twist. For this outfit I wanted to mix modern and retro style. A maxi dress is an easy, modern piece that can be transformed easily. I add a lace top because it is an elegant and classic and has always been in style. The gold belt is perfect to cinch my waist to make sure I don’t look so boxy and the vintage inspired stud earrings are the perfect finishing touch.

-AM

Accessorize

Summer 2014

Wearing a t-shirt and jeans is like wearing a blank canvas. The right accessories can make a simple outfit into something more interesting. I wanted to keep this outfit pretty simple so I added a thin gold belt and some retro gold earrings. This is super casual but with just the right amount of accessories to make sure its not boring. Accessories can make a huge difference, so I always make sure to add some to complete my outfit.

Dress it up

Summer 2014

I am one of those odd people that feel more comfortable being over dressed than wearing sweatpants and a t-shirt. I tend to dress anything up, even when I’m just hanging out. During the school year, I always got comments from my classmates asking how I have the time everyday to dress up. It actually doesn’t take me any longer than it would for me to throw on jeans and a tee. The key is to wear simple pieces with a big statement.

Yesterday I piddled around the mall and decided to pop into this vintage candy store called Lolli & Pops. Totally in love with the overpriced candy and the retro decorations (and uniforms). For a day of shopping, I always wear a dress. It is the easiest thing to change out of if I need to try on clothes, and it’s basically an outfit all in one. I decided to wear my maxi dress with my strappy black tank over and knotted on the side. To dress it up even more I added a statement necklace and my black clutch. Such a simple outfit, yet enough to make it look like I put a lot of effort into it.

Dressing up a bit doesn’t take a lot. You can still be comfortable and ready to take on the day.

Just Chill Bro

Summer 2014

On the days I spend hanging out with friends, I always wear something cute yet versatile. No matter what we decide to do, I want to be comfortable but still stylish.

High waisted shorts are really in this summer, and choosing a pair with a bright color makes them even more fun. A loose tee knotted at the waist is relaxed and gives a cute touch. Espadrilles will be perfect for any situation, especially if there is a lot of walking.

Amusement parks, laser tag, movie days, or even just hanging out at the mall, this outfit is perfect for a summer day!

-AM

*Yes, I have been wearing the same clothes over and over. Why? Check it out here.

On the Run

Summer 2014

We all have those days where we have a lot to do and don’t want to do it. On these busy days I have to force myself to get out of bed and get going so, of course, I want to be as comfortable as possible.

A lightweight tank is great for those hot days and a pair of jean shorts are comfy and classic. I added a pair of espadrilles because they are perfect for when I have to do a lot of walking. For my hair, a messy pony and a thick headband keeps everything out of my face and it looks relaxed and cute.

Running errands, a day at the amusement park, or a family barbecue, this outfit is perfect for those days when you’ll be running around.

Color Blocking

Summer 2014

It is always easiest to wear neutrals with maybe one pop of color. But what’s the fun in that? Color blocking is something that I LOVE to do. Wearing two different, contrasting colors is such a fun way to spice up your outfit, and it’s so easy! The easiest way to do so is to pair a warm color with a cool color. In this outfit I paired yellow and blue and I am loving the way the colors really pop against each other.

Since I have a huge pop of color, I wanted to leave everything else pretty neutral. The striped top is fun but still muted. I kept my accessories minimal; a pair of stud earrings. But, of course, I had to wear my ankle strap sandals (they are just way too cute).

This outfit is classy and simple, yet still super trendy. Don’t be afraid to be bold and go outside of your comfort zone.

-AM

Elegance

Summer 2014

Sometimes it’s the simple things that make you feel pretty. For me, it’s lace. Every time I wear lace I feel so elegant and grown up. This lace top is perfect for wanting to be dressed up but not wanting to put a lot of effort into it. I decided to wear this with my green pants and my ankle strap sandals to add just enough drama. To complete the look, I added my black Coach wristlet. It is a simple, classy outfit that was very effortless.

You don’t have to put a lot of effort into what you’re wearing. If you have elegant pieces, let them stand out.

-AM

Layers

Summer 2014

It has come to the point in my journey of minimalism where I am starting to repeat clothing. Well, that is the whole point of this challenge, but it can be pretty difficult. One of the ways I like to transform pieces is by layering. Just because it’s not cold outside doesn’t mean you can’t layer! Adding more clothing to a simple piece can completely change the look.

So with this maxi dress, I decided to layer and knot my snake print tank over. This gives the illusion that I am wearing a tank and a skirt, without actually having to go out and buy seperates. I put on some cool, stackable rings and some chunky earrings to dress up the outfit a bit. Some comfy, strappy sandals are enough to complete the look. This outfit looks super laid back and effortless- perfect for a summer shopping day, or grabbing lunch with friends.

When you feel as if you have nothing to wear, experiment with layering. You can create a whole new look without having to buy new clothes.

-AM

Btw- How do you guys like my ombre nails? I’ve been obsessing over nail art!

Stripes

Summer 2014

Some days, I am so lazy and tired that I don’t feel like putting any effort into my outfits. This outfit is so comfy and easy that I really didn’t have to think about it. These green pants are on of my favorites, they are so incredibly comfortable that it feels as if I’m wearing sweatpants. Then I threw on this loose fitting striped tee and a pair of espadrilles. I also decided to leave on my glasses because it’s nice to give my eyes a break (and they’re so cute).

We all have those days that we don’t feel like doing anything, but you can still look cute when you want to be lazy!

-AM

(Yes, I have actually read this book. Twice.)

Modern Ballerina

Summer 2014

When I was a little girl, I would pretend to be many different things. I was a princess, a teacher, a mom, and of course a ballerina. Now that I’m older, I can still play dress up. I take inspiration from all around and apply that to what I choose to wear. Today, I wanted to be a ballerina.

This blue skirt is one of my faves (as I have said before). It is flowy and pretty and makes me feel like a dancer. I’m wearing it with my plain, fitted tube top because I wanted the focus to be on the skirt. I then added this really cool statement necklace for an edge. My hair is in a low bun to dress up the outfit a bit, and of course it is ballerina inspired.

You can still have fun with you’re clothing even though you’re not a little kid anymore. That’s what fashion is all about!

Small Details

Summer 2014

As you probably have noticed, my style is very simple. I don’t like wearing a lot of jewelry or elaborate clothing. The rest of my wardrobe consists of basic clothing that can be mixed and matched. It is the small details that make clothing most beautiful, like this tank top. It looks like a plain black tank, but when you look at the back you see it has dainty strap detailing. It is a way of making a statement without being over the top.

I’m wearing it with high waisted coral shorts because I like the pop of color for summer. Then, I added a gold belt and gold drop earrings to add a little glamour. And then of course I put on my favorite black sandals.

Sometimes, with style, it isn’t about how elaborate your outfit is, it is about appreciating the clothing and paying tribute to the details.
